In the real first week of the nominations for the ANC leadership, Cyril Ramaphosa appears to have received more nominations than Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at national level.
It is a tricky process and not reliable as there is no collation mechanism that can confirm how the branches nominated.
Relying on social media in particular, it has become clear that the next two months are going to be bloody. In the Free State there is a widely reported story of a certain Spielman who is alleged to have stabbed a branch member in Wesselsebron who was trying to nominate Ramaphosa for president. The picture of a bloodied member, apparently stabbed by Spielman, has been trending in social media.
In KZN reports abound of mass rigging of nomination branch general meetings with members signing attendance registers at weddings and funerals. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma seems to be leading in the kingdom Province.
Ramaphosa appears to have taken the lead in Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape. It is too early to predict how the nominations will go in terms if the two main contenders, Ramaphosa and Dlamini-Zuma.
