Metro cops smoke out dagga hauls in early-hours raids

Metro cops in Cape Town started Wednesday on a high by seizing dagga worth R57‚000 and confiscating R2‚500 in cash.

Metro police spokeswoman Ruth Solomons said the gang and drug task team arrested two men in Nyanga and one in Gugulethu for being in possession of drugs.

At 3am‚ officers pursuing a tip-off went to a Nyanga house‚ she said. “The owner granted permission for a search and officers found 438 parcels of dagga and 77 dagga stoppe. The estimated value of the dagga is R46‚000. Officers also confiscated nearly R2‚500 in cash. Two males‚ aged 34 and 36 were arrested for the possession of drugs and detained.”

Less than an hour later‚ the team received another tip-off about suspicious activity in Gugulethu. “A search of the premises revealed a large stash of dagga‚ including 101 parcels‚ 53 bankies and a carrier bag filled with the drug‚ with an estimated value of R11‚000‚” said Solomons.

“The officers arrested a 44-year-old male for being in possession of drugs.”
