The Thuma Mina Movement took its message to one of South Africa’s oldest townships, Alexandra, popularly known as “tounsheep.” The scene was the studios of Alex FM at Pan African part of the township.

The township community radio station, anchored by Tshepo Mosima, hosted Sello Lediga, founder of the Thuma Mina Movement and Lucas Bambo, the Marketing and Communications Manager. The purpose of the visit to Alex FM was to spread the message of the new Movement that has taken South Africa by storm.

Lediga explained the genesis of the TMM that emerged after President Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation address in parliament on 16 February 2018. He called upon the people of Alex to commit to rebuilding their communities and turn Alexandra into a township of excellence. “We are spreading our philosophy of selflessness and self-reliance,” Lediga bellowed.

Lucas Bambo informed listeners that the Thuma Mina Movement had already started working with a local agriculture project called Modimo o Teng. The project entails the planting and harvesting of vegetable crops. Bambo promised that “we will soon be bringing agricultural expertise to assist the project to achieve its objectives and make it a truly profitable enterprise.”

The interview ended with Lediga making an appeal to the people of Alex and South Africa to join the Thuma Mina Movement and start the difficult job of rebuilding the broken South African nation. That happens by volunteering their free services to the people of the country, especially the sick, poverty and vulnerable.
