THE Joburg Metro cops graduated from the police academy just six months ago.
But while they were still newbies in uniform, it seems the two were experts at being corrupt and greedy.
They were bust for taking a R20 bribe during Operation Buya Mthetho in the Joburg CBD.
Metro police chief David Tembe was furious and promised to root out all corruption in his department.
Police spokesman Wayne Minnaar said: “Internal affairs members became suspicious when they saw two officers sitting inside a car belonging to a member of the public.
“They watched as the driver put money in a bag belonging to one officer.
“After that, the officer got out of the car and put the bag against a street pole.”
Wayne said internal affairs members intervened and the driver admitted to putting two R10 notes in the bag.
“He said the officers demanded money for cold drink from him because his licence disk had expired.”
Minnaar said the cops would appear in the Joburg Magistrates Court on charges of corruption and bribery.
