Today, 2 April 2019, the Democratic Alliance (DA) KwaZulu-Natal Premier Candidate, Zwakele Mncwango, DA Team One SA Spokesperson on Immigration, Jacques Julius, and DA Team One KZN Spokesperson on Borders, Haniff Hoosen, will visit a facility in Sydenham which has taken in displaced foreign nationals who have been the victims of brutal xenophobic attacks in KwaZulu-Natal.
This past week protesting community members of the Burnwood settlement reportedly removed foreign nationals from their homes and looted their shacks. We will engage with those displaced victims and assess what arrangements have been made for their safety and reintegration or relocation in the area.
The chaos and corruption at Home Affairs can be attributed to flair ups of xenophobic violence such as this. Change in government is needed to turn the situation at Home Affairs around. The lives of people depend on it.
The DA condemns these senseless xenophobic attacks in the strongest possible terms, as it has no space in our diverse democracy.
